Sevdah's 2004 performances at the :

1. University of Washington Slavic Fest, Seattle, May 16, 2004

Sevdah's first performance was at the UW Slavic Fest. The invitation to the Bosnian community of the greater Seattle metropolitan area by the UW Slavic Department actually motivated our president Denis Bašić to initiate the establishment of our folklore ensemble. Before the performance on the stage, as the representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sevdahlije [Sevdahites] participated in the parade alongside several other Slavic nations. Here are some pictures from Sevdah's performance at the UW Slavic Fest 2004.

2. Bosniak Picnic, Issaquah, July 3, 2004

Sevdah performed for the second time at the Bosniak Picnic in Issaquah. Many of us consider this performance our "sweetest," because with this opportunity we earned our first money. The generous audience filled our hats with $377. These funds will be used to make a set of authentic Bosniak folk costumes. Here are some pictures from the Bosniak Picnic 2004.

3. Days of Srebrenica, Tukwila, July 10, 2004

The Islamic Community of Bosniaks of the State of Washington invited Sevdah to participate in the event called the Days of Srebrenica - a memorial manifestation in honor of the victims of 1995 Srebrenica massacre. This was Sevdah's hardest performance. We decided to dance as a symbolic proof that the Bosniak culture has survived in spite of the genocidal crimes committed against Bosnian-Herzegovinan Muslims during the 1992-95 war. Here are some pictures from Sevdah's performance at the days of Srebrenica memorial.

4. Celebration of the Soccer Champions, Bothell, September 25, 2004

The Bosnian-Herzegovinan soccer team of greater Seattle won the title of champions in Seattle's international soccer cup. In the final match the Bosnians and Herzegovinans beat the Brazilians by 5:2. Well, a big party had to be organized and Sevdah was honored to participate in it and greet our champions. The hall was fairly dark and the pictures did not turn quite well. However, here is a video recording of Jajačka truska dance. Click here and enjoy! (Warning! The file is fairly large, so the cable connection is recommended.)

5. Turkfest, Seattle, October 24, 2004

Sevdah was also invited to perform at Turkest 2004 at the Seattle Center. We performed alongside our friends from Turkey, USA, Japan, Khirghizistan, Uzbekistan, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, and several other countries. The theme of this festival was "Living in Harmony Throughout the Ages" and that harmony was audible in the similarity of the tunes performed, as well as in similar or identical costumes from different Balkan countries. Here are a few pictures from the Turkfest 2004.

6. Bayram Celebration, Bothell, November 29, 2004

The Islamic Community of Bosniaks from Washington once again invited Sevdah  to participate in the celebration of the Muslim holiday commonly known in Bosnia as "Bayram" ('Eid al-Fitr). At the same event, we took the opportunity to celebrate the "Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina - November 25. On that day in 1943. Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in her present borders. Sevdah was pleased to take part in this religious and cultural program together with its friends - Balkan Cabaret, religious choir Gazije, children of the Bosniak religious schools of the greater Seattle area, and their teacher, the imam Abdulah Polovina. Here are some pictures of Sevdah and its friends at the 2004 Bayram Celebration.

7. White Center gathering, Seattle, December 11, 2004

Seattle's White Center district puts great effort into improving the quality of life for its citizens. On December 11, 2004, they had their annual gathering with meetings, a lunch break with a lot of great food from all around the globe, and a cultural program. Sevdah was invited to present some Bosnian-Herzegovinan dances to this multi-ethnic and multi-racial community, which also included Bosnian-Herzegovinan immigrants. Here are some pictures from our White Center 2004 performance.

8. An Evening of Bosniak Folklore, Seatac, December 18, 2004

So great is the interest in folklore among the 7,000 strong B-H community in Seattle, there are already two folk ensembles. The other B-H folk ensemble is Behar, which is a part of the local Bosnian-American Cultural Association (BACA). In December 2004 Behar organized an evening of Bosniak folklore. This was a benefit concert the proceedings from which went for acquiring Behar's folk costumes. Sevdah, not having its own costumes either and having to continuously borrow them, fully understood this endeavor of Behar and came to support them by performing at Behar's evening of Bosniak folklore . Good luck, Behar!
